Okay, so I haven’t been blogging on toob.no since I left for Australia in July 2008. Most of the reason for that was that I didn’t have a focus for my blog. It was a lot of random stuff I ended up posting on the blog, my plans of using it as a travel log/personal outlet was not really for me. So it faded away, and was revived again in August/September this year as a portfolio site. Now however, I’ve started to think that although the portfolio gives a peek into my design process and thoughts, I can’t justify posting longer write-ups of my process and thoughts on design-related topics – a portfolio is not the place for that. The result is this – blog.toob.no journal.toob.no.

The research into the field of information graphics (infographics) is important, and should be understood by all practitioners of visual communication and graphic design. Infographics is defined as a way of visually communicating complex information quickly and clearly to an audience, for example through signs, symbols, graphs, instruction manuals or maps (Gomez-Palacio, B. & Vit A. 2009). Although the end result is essentially a graphic or an image, there are some key differences from creating a pretty picture to creating an infographic that actually works. These differences are mainly in regard to the design’s purpose being effectively conveying data or information.
